Background History

Located in Maryland, Point Lookout Lighthouse sits on a peninsula at the confluence of the Potomac River and the Chesapeake
Bay and first came into existence in 1830.   The peninsula itself is more noted as a prison camp for confederate soldiers during
the latter part of the civil war.   Also known as Camp Hoffman, it was known as one of the worse prison camps of the war.
Opened in 1863, the camp remained open until the end of the war.   In September 1863, 4,000 Confederates were being held at
the camp; by December, the number had more than doubled to 9,000.   By the following June, less than one year after the camp
opened, more than 20,000 prisoners crowded the camp.

Conditions at the camp were extreme and harsh as many men died.   In just under two years, out of 52,264 confederates
imprisoned at Point Lookout, between 3,000 and 8,000 men died.   The lighthouse and peninsula are now known as one of
Maryland's most haunted locations.   Many park rangers have reported unusual events which are documented as well as
investigations from many paranormal groups have yielded amazing results.

Point Lookout Lighthouse

We were able to set up our investigation through the Point Lookout Lighthouse Preservation Society and were quite excited
to be able to investigate such an interesting and historic place.   A place that is noted for much paranormal activity as well.
It would also be our first controlled attempt at video ITC (Instrumental TransCommunication) and we were eager to see if
we could capture any results.   More information on Video ITC can be found below from the aaevp.

Investigation Data and Experiences

We divided our group up into two smaller groups of three people each to begin our investigation.   Group A (Marty Seibel,
Lisa Rose and Kelli Jones) began on the second floor while group B (Shea Willis, Jennifer Hensley and Michelle Chase)
covered the first floor.   Also in the company of each group was a reporter from a local magazine and paper.   Kim
Hammond (event cordinator) along with two other guests opened the building for us and were there to answer any
questions.   Shea's GPS showed no proximity to any Ley (or magnetic) lines.

Audio Results:

Marty/Lisa/Kelli- (Minutes used on cassette recorder--120 mins. – Upstairs library, back bedroom and basement with mixed
results, many class c evp captured possibly one with singing in the library), (Minutes used on Digital Audio Recorder
--40 mins, one evp recorded in the basement)

Shea/Jennifer/Michelle- (Minutes used on cassette recorder--60 mins. – Downstairs living room, dining room (Minutes used
on Digital Audio Recorder--30 mins, upstairs bedroom capturing a class A evp in upstairs bedroom as noted below.)

Temperature Results:

No recorded temperature changes (other than a few minor changes recorded near a window with a detectable draft).   A cold
spot was felt by Kelli Jones and Lisa Rose in upstairs hallway upon entering back bedroom.   However no data to support
this could be of paranormal nature.

Personal Experiences:

One particular incident happened early on in the investigation.   While Shea, Jennifer and Michelle were downstairs doing
evp work, they heard walking (footsteps) loudly upstairs where Marty, Lisa and Kelli were sitting after setting up video
equipment.   Jennifer had assumed it was Marty, Lisa and Kelli making the noise and were walking around.   Only they
were not walking around, they were sitting on the steps.   No one else was upstairs that could have made these noises.

Several cold spots were felt yet no temperature drops were detected.   Shea and both Jennifer felt a certain energy (a
feeling as if someone was in the room with them) from the smallest bedroom upstairs early on in the investigation.
From there we decided to set up our video ITC.   Jennifer, Michelle and Shea concentrated their efforts in this room
on audio recordings and it was here that they captured the voice of a woman saying "Its lost, Its lost" in between
comments from Shea and Jennifer.   This recording was captured on three different recorders.   A couple
members reported a rotten odor from one of the back bedrooms that disappeared quickly.

Final Conclusion:   Paranormally Active

From a historical perspective and paranormal aspect, this was a very interesting place to investigate.   While we did capture
a very good (class A) evp upstairs in the smaller bedroom, we also captured several class C evps that were basically useless.
Photographs both 35 mm and digital revealed no unusual results as well as video and video ITC.   Several group members
did have minor experiences with cold spots as well as reporting the smell of an odor from one of the upstairs bedrooms.
Most data (evps) was obtained early on and mid way through the investigation.

All of these were captured early on in the investigation when surroundings were all very quiet.   We did capture more much
later in the investigation but they had to be discarded for contamination reasons.   Based on these audio recordings, especially
the female voice whom we believe may have been Ann Davis who was keeper of the lighthouse from 1830-1847 according to
records, we certainly believe there is paranormal activity at the lighthouse.   Haunted?   We believe it is but would certainly
like to investigate again and add to our data to further those claims.
