The Old City Jail was built in 1802 on the site of a former, hospital, poor house and slave workhouse.   Both Confederate and Federal prisoners or war were held here during the Civil War.   Slaves, murderers, traitors, and petty criminals were all also held, tortured, and executed at the gallows here.   It is believed that as many as 10,000 people died on this property. Adams and used as a stop on the underground railroad.   Daytime tours are arranged by calling 740-221-4175. This historic 29 room mansion was built in 1856 by abolitionist George W. Adams with the intent of using it as a stop along the underground railroad.   It offered a many a slave a chance for freedom.   Noted for having an abundance of paranormal activity to go with its rich history, both Ghost Hunters (Taps) and Ghost Adventures have investigated here recently.
