TRAVEL GUIDE

Graystone Cabins

Barnardsville, NC.

Graystone is a private mountain retreat twenty minutes north of Asheville in Barnardsville, North Carolina.
It is a peaceful place surrounded by the Pisgah National Forest.

We had seen a episode of haunted travels on the travel channel about the cabins just a week before we left for
vacation in October 2005.   We really liked what the area offered and it seemed like the perfect get away for a
weekend as we headed for Savannah.   We came away very impressed.   The peace and quite, the mountains, and
the forest just will engulf you, just like the Joshua Warren mentioned on the travel channel.   A story presented on
there was of a black man named Raymond who many, many years ago who would get together, play cards and
drink moonshine with a white neighbor friend and his wife at their cabin on the mountain.

They did this quite a bit.   However one day, the neighbor was suspicious of Raymond flirting with his
wife.   Weather Raymond did or did not, I guess we really don't know.   But as the story is told, the combination
of moonshine and a jealous husband lead to deadly events.   The neighbor took Raymond out on a hunting trip
and when the opportunity presented itself, he shot him in back and killed him.   It is said, that Raymond's ghost
possibly haunts the area up on the mountain around the cabins.   We were told by the owners, that many
strange things have been reported by guests around The Oak and Creekside cabins.

We stayed two nights at the Creekside cabin and while I can tell you we had no major occurances, there was one
thing unusual that happened our first morning there.   I awoke around 4:30 the first morning to the sound of
footsteps downstairs walking over the wooden floor, loud enough that it woke me up.   I glanced over thinking
it may have been Lisa that had went on down to fix breakfast.   However she was sound asleep.

Views from around the cabins.

Just click on a picture to view it closer!

All in all, I really enjoyed this place!   While it gave me a very creepy, uneasy feeling, it was definitely worth the
visit and we certainly plan on staying there again.   There is always a sense of being watched and a majestic
feeling to the area.   As far as being creepy, I'd have to rank this in the top three of places we have visited.
However creepy though, does not make a place haunted.   I did feel uneasy several times exploring in and
around the cabins and that is unusual for me for that rarely happens.   I did enjoy it though!   Would I
go back?   You betcha!!!
